Film of Anna M sailing under bare poles
running for Cape St. Vincent |
Timetable for the Baltimore - Sherkin Island ferry |
What Fiona and Joe Aston do:-

In a stunning location in Horseshoe Bay on Sherkin Island, West Cork, we provide B&B accommodation in a twin/double, a double and a single bedroom, each with en suite shower and w.c.. We use organically and home produced food where possible. |

We run a 45’ schooner, Anna M, for sailing trips from Sherkin Island, mainly orientated to dolphin and whale-watching. The Anna M is licensed for 7 passengers, and Skipper Joe Aston has an Irish Sailing Association endorsed ticket for taking passengers to sea. |

Fiona, who is registered with the Irish Society of Homeopaths and holds an ITEC qualification in Indian head and holistic massage, offers these treatments from Horseshoe Cottage. |

Joe publishes and mostly writes this site, www.gannetsway.com. To understand how it got its name, see the poem.. On Sailing The Gannets’ Way. Perhaps it is a somewhat confusing way to promote the above activities, but the fact is it has its own raison d' etre, which precedes them. Joe initiated it nearly 10 years ago, to post sailing reports when he managed to break out and do some cruising round the coasts of Brittany and northern Spain. Travel under sail is one way to rediscover the hidden energy flows around us, which do not fit into the ordinary straitjackets of life, the financial and political structures that may dominate our lives, but seem more and more inept these days.
With Anna M, he has featured in the film The Return of the Humpback Whale and the photographic book The Islands of Ireland. He is currently rewriting his novel Wavedancing, with a view to having another go at doing something useful with it!
Our other activites do all relate to that recovery of what might be called a sustainable footing for our lives. This may be primarily a spiritual matter, but it seems to us that ironically it needs to start by taking the physical energy flows around us more seriously. In Joe's case, even money has to be taken so! Having posted material on this site all this time with no more objective than he might have in going for a sail, like the sailing, in order to survive it has to earn its living, hence the Google ads. Our hope is that they will also make the site more useful and interesting to you the readers!
