I believe all that sea air helps to clear the mind, and I like to think that I can produce good English! I was fortunate enough to receive a good grounding when my brain was young and impressionable in those English Benedictine schools, and went on to read English with French and Spanish at Cambridge University for my sins. Subsequently I taught for a while, and worked as a journalist and editorial assistant in Fleet St. Much more recently, I wrote and edited Wavedancing, and I have begun to find a market for my editorial skills internationally.
I see language as, among other things, a precision technology. Clear, concise, consistent and correct English enables good thinking and effective communication; it’s as simple as that. The whole structure of a text is important, reflecting the thinking behind it. While word processors can help in a mechanical way, they do not perceive that. No matter how big or small it may be, if you would like me to check out a text for you, all you have to do is email it to me, and I will send it back with suggested corrections that you can then accept or reject at the click of your mouse! I also offer translation from French or Spanish into English.
